When you think of summer what comes to mind? The hot sunny weather, the ocean, kids playing in sprinklers, ice cream, fun with friends, and MUSIC! Long Beach has had the pleasure to host tons of free music and the last two years Summer And Music have gone together hand in hand. The free and all-ages outdoor concert series called Summer And Music, or SAM for short, has brought some great musicians both local and nationally touring to downtown Long Beach for a slew of great events. This year your favorite events are returning for the 2011 series including Battle of the Tribute Bands [June 18th], Funk Fest [August 20th], and Buskerfest [August 27th] which all utilize a different part of downtown Long Beach as their backdrop.
The newest addition to this year is the “Sundays in the Park with SAM” or SiPS, which is EVERY Sunday in the Promenade Park in Downtown Long Beach off of 1st street and Promenade Way. These are smaller family friendly events that showcase all local musicians, local art, and fun games! You already missed the official kick off to the SAM series as Jenny Stockdale, Pawn Shop Kings, and The Fling took to the stage at Promenade Park this past Sunday, June 5th. The crowd was sprawled upon the green grasses as they enjoyed free music, art displays, and bean bag toss by We Love Long Beach. The SiPS events happen at the same time and day every week, beginning at 3pm and going to roughly 7pm, if you didn’t make it out this past Sunday make sure to catch Robert Jon, Pageants, and Brown and Blue. Check out coverage of this past Sunday’s show below, and enjoy all the free music this summer![adrotate banner=”4″]
