buskerfest_long_beach_2013Summer And Music is back to the East Village for the fifth annual BuskerFest – when some of the best bands in and around Long Beach come off the stage to pay homage to their brethren street musicians and to join in good-natured competition.

As in previous years, twelve (mostly) local bands will perform on stages set up on flat bed trucks with minimal plugged-in equipment. Audience participation is the other defining element of the event and we look to you to “vote” for your favorite act by tossing wooden nickels in guitar cases. After the winner is announced at 8PM, non-competing bands will play the main stages including The Fling, He’s My Brother, She’s My Sister, and Carly Ritter. The night will culminate with a dance party in the street with DJ Lithunanian Prince.

In past years it has been really been a competition about who has the loudest battery-powered equipment and not about showcasing a stripped down acoustic and “busker” style set of music.

Based on crowd feedback, they have made some changes for BuskerFest V including extending the dance party at the end, making the whole event space a beer garden, and additional amplification to pick up all of the stomps, claps, and unplugged instrumentation and vocals that make these performances intimate and unique which we feel is one of the best moves the festival organizers have made since it’s inception.
