jmdbThe John Martin Davis Band played their first gig in the summer of 2013, but their true beginnings are nearly 20 years old. John Martin and Daniel Davis are the brotherly duo driving the unique sound the JMDB consistently delivers. One part gospel bluegrass, one part rock ’n’ roll, with touches of funk and virtuosic jams all stirred with roots deeply southern — the JMDB is wholly original and causing a buzz at every thriving bar and venue they’ve played. Whether they’re playing with talented friends, recording with all-stars of southern rock, or entertaining captivated crowds in intimate venues as an acoustic duo, the JMDB is a musical experience that has left many both impressed and hungry for more. The brothers have recently transplanted themselves from their inspiring southern roots along the Gulf Coast of Alabama to the breezy, laid back beaches of Long Beach, CA.

Last year the John Martin Davis Band released their debut album, Beginnings, which is available on iTunes. Produced by the legendary Johnny Sandlin, producer of Allman Brothers albums such as Brothers and Sisters, The Road Goes On Forever, Fillmore East, and Eat a Peach . Players on the album include the talents of Will McFarlane and David Hood, an original “Swamper” from Muscle Shoals, AL.

While their studio efforts thus far focus heavily on country and bluegrass influence, their live efforts have added touches more worthy of terms such as psychedelic and ethereal, all while maintaining the never ending drive of Daniel Davis’ banjo pickings. The two songwriters turn their musical ears and talented words-smithing to life, love, the spiritual and the light-hearted; bringing alive stories and emotions from their own lives and the lives of those around them.

Listening to the stylings of the JMDB one hears both the familiar and the foreign. Whether you hear them in a small Mississippi town or Hollywood, CA — the John Martin Davis Band will lighten your heart, sooth your blues and take you to a simpler time.
