FIRST, LAST, & ALWAYS is a new weekly series that aims to give readers a quick fire introduction to some of the talented and hardworking musicians defining the Long Beach music scene.
First up is our hometown hero Joshua Fischel.
Joshua Fischel has been calling Long Beach “home” since the early 90s.  He spent nine years with the band Bargain Music and put out seven albums.  In addition to collaborating with Long Beach elite artists from our Sublime days like Bud Gaugh, Eric Wilson, and Ikey Owens, Fischel has also graced stages with Los Lobos, Dr. Dog, Run DMC, Lee “Scratch” Perry, Fishbone, The Black Eyed Peas, Weezer, Rancid, N’Dea Davenport, Buju Banton, Monsieur LeRoc, Suicidal Tendencies, Eminem, Spearhead, The Ziggens, Nels Cline, Wailing Souls, Ice-T, Mixmaster Mike, Del The Funky, Homosapien, Mad Professor, Abstract Rude, Murs, Kool Keith, 2-Mex, Banyan, !!! (Chk Chk Chk), Slightly Stoopid, and AWOL-ONE…just to name a few.
When Fischel is not touring the world as a singer-songwriter he is usually around town making awesome stuff happen as the Musical Director of the musical theater company RIOTstage and as Creative Director of the Downtown Long Beach Association’s monthly live music event Live After Five. This year Fischel’s latest band Joshua Fischel & The Fiction released their debut album “Quixotic.”
