On Friday April 2nd, 2018 Atlantic Blvd. was bustling with live music, food, and art as part of Bixby Knolls’ First Fridays. She Sings She Swings carried the night away at Willmore’s with a swinging set.

If you haven’t been to Willmore’s Wine Bar, you should go. Their staff is very friendly, wine selection is excellent, and choice in live music is jazzy. Their walls are lined with 1920’s Swing-era posters inspired by French Nouveau. Which is why it’s a niche spot to host jazz ensembles.

She Sings She Sings is a well knit quartet of stand-up bass, fiddle, and two guitars. That night they played several jazz such as “Lullaby of Birdland,” “Sunny Side of the Street,” and “Ain’t Misbehavin’.”

Their synchronous sways of rhythm guitar were tantalizing. Scat occasionally made an appearance. They really come into their own once they did a triple voice harmony which made them sound like a sisterhood of djangology.

Bixby Knolls’ Artwalk is on the first friday of every month.
